SP11 Suntory Toki Black
Suntory's first limited-edition release in a decade, Toki Black reimagines the brand's signature Toki blend with an added layer of smoke and depth. Building on the same Hakushu malt core and Yamazaki sherry cask influence that anchor the original Toki, this expression introduces Hakushu Peated malt along with Hakushu Grain whisky — a first for a global Suntory release. The result is a whisky that keeps Toki's easy-drinking, cocktail-friendly DNA while pulling it into richer, smokier territory. Think baked apple and honeysuckle up front, a wave of butterscotch and warm spice through the middle, and a finish of white pepper, ginger, and a gentle wisp of smoke that lingers like the last note of a record you wish would play again.
ABOUT THE NAME & INSPIRATION
Toki means "time" in Japanese, representing a deep part of Japanese culture where reverence for tradition meets bold innovation. To mark the release, Suntory commissioned a piece of original music inspired by Jazz Kissa (Japanese listening bar) culture and the philosophy of Ichigo Ichie — the idea that each moment is unique and can never be repeated. The collaboration paired Grammy-nominated producer Terrace Martin with Japanese jazz artist Ryota Nozaki (Jazztronik), resulting in a two-sided vinyl release: one side an improvisational session, the other a reinterpretation.
