SP27 Fuji Japanese Whisky
Introduced in 2016, Fuji-Sanroku ("at the foot of Fuji") is Kirin's entry-level Japanese whisky, produced at the Fuji Gotemba Distillery — the world's largest whisky distillery, sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji. A no-age-statement, non-chill-filtered blend of malt and grain whisky, it draws its water from snowmelt that has filtered through volcanic rock beneath the mountain for over 50 years. The nose brings sparkling berries, oak spice, and deep ripe red fruit, with a heavier, more grain-forward character than many entry-level Japanese blends. The palate carries a rich, malty body, with the higher proof lending real weight and warmth, before finishing with grassy notes and lingering caramel sweetness. Bottled at 50% ABV — notably strong for the category — this remains one of Kirin's most widely available bottlings and, as of recent years, still qualifies as "Japanese Whisky" under the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association's official standards.
ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Fuji Gotemba was built in 1972 as a joint venture between Kirin, Seagram, and Chivas Brothers, drawing on American, Canadian, and Scotch distilling traditions all under one roof. Today wholly Kirin-owned, the distillery sits 610–620 meters above sea level, where cool temperatures and near-constant fog create ideal, slow maturation conditions.
STYLE: BLENDED JAPANESE WHISKY, NAS
SPECIAL NOTES: NON-CHILL FILTERED; QUALIFIES AS "JAPANESE WHISKY" UNDER JSLMA STANDARDS
