Description
The Suigei Brewery was established in 1872 and is the only sake brewery in Kochi City. After undergoing a rebranding in 1969, the name “Suigei” translates to “drunk whale,” inspired by a Japanese feudal lord from that area – Yamauchi Yodo. Yodo was an avid drinker and referred to himself as “Geikai suiko,” which translates to “a drunkard lord in a sea full of whales.” The brewery’s production centers on dry, umami and acidity-focused shokuchushu, which is sake that is meant to be consumed with meals/food.
