The Bakemono Zukushi series draws inspiration from Japan’s Edo-period “Monster Scroll,” a historical artwork depicting eerie and mystical yokai (spirits) from folklore. This exclusive three-bottle collection showcases distinct single malts and blends from Japan’s finest craft distilleries, each embodying the spirit of a legendary creature:
- Edition 4 – Sarahebi (Nure-onna): A 6-year-old unpeated single malt from Komagatake Distillery, aged in a New American Oak hogshead, honoring the elusive, snake-like spirit believed to emerge from rivers and seas. ($299)
- Edition 5 – Minokedachi: A heavily peated 5+ year single malt from Tsunuki Distillery, matured in a sherry hogshead, representing a ghostly, hunchbacked figure that stirs fear and discontent.($299)
- Edition 6 – Nobusuma: A 5+ year peated blended malt, combining Tsunuki and Komagatake whisky aged in ex-bourbon barrels on Yakushima Island, featuring the terrifying Nobusuma, a bat-like yokai said to prey on unsuspecting travelers. ($299)
