Description

Founded in 1910 in Tottori Prefecture, Matsui Shuzo Distillery lies northwest of Kyoto and near the Sea of Japan, within sight of Mount Daisen. The spring water used in their Sake, Shōchū, and Whisky is filtered through volcanic stone, resulting in a unique, soft mineral composition. The distillery maintains a low profile, lacking a visitor center or direct sales, but their whiskies are highly regarded. They produce ten Malts under the Kurayoshi brand and five grain Whiskies under the Tottori nameplate, popular among Japanese whisky enthusiasts.

Kurayoshi Sherry Cask Pure Malt, the second Sherry-influenced Malt in the Kurayoshi portfolio, is aged for three years and finished in Sherry casks. Made from 100% malted barley sourced from Scotland, it is blended with Japanese whisky and proofed with Tottori’s volcanic stone-filtered water. This younger whisky features herbal and citrus notes, offering a bright, complex profile that pairs well with food.
