Description
Nakao Brewery was established in 1871 in Takehara, a town that is often referred to as “Little Kyoto of Aki,” which was the former name of Hiroshima. The town’s success as a salt and sake producer was attributed to its environment – sunshine and manageable preciipitation. At one point, 26 sake breweries thrived due to positive climate. However, disease and wartime influenced the dependability of a transported rice variety (omachi) that became a popular component of sake. Sake breweries in Takahara shifted their efforts to reviving omachi rice.
