Description
Tatsuuma-Honke Brewery was established in 1662. The brand “Hakushika” refers to the “white deer,” in reference to the old Chinese legend about a Tang dynasty emperor who saw a white deer roaming the palace gardens. The deer wore a bronze medal, an indicator that it was 1000 years old. The emperor believed that this was an sign of promise and longevity. The brewery adopted the name as it reflected a long history and promising future. Based in Nishinomiya, one of Japan’s most important sake brewing regions, the brewery also has a Sake Museum with excellent exhibits that dive deeper into sake brewing history and related industries.
