Eigashima Distillery was the recipient of Japan’s first whisky license in 1919, though production didn’t begin until the early 1960’s. Founded as a sake history, and with a family and regional history of sake production dating to the Edo period, Eigashima Shuzo has expanded their production offerings to include wine, umeshu, shochu, and mirin, in addition to sake and whisky. Still a micro-distillery, they dedicate different seasons to each category. Whisky is produced in the colder 5 months of the year. Situated under 100 yards from the Osaka Bay, the distillery enjoys a warm coastal climate. The savory, saline driven purity of their whiskies showcase this special place.
